Fighter-inspired BCBG Collection Lacks Colour for Spring/Summer 2013

Unlike the regular line (and especially the 2012 collections), BCBG’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection was not exactly Herve Leger Redux (seems to be a “thing” for Max Azria these days – this season, BCBG boutiques are filled with bodycon/bandage dresses that look like they were reworked from previous Herve Leger collections). The collection is filled with both boho and fighter/samurai-inspired pieces (somewhat reminiscent of VAWK’s “Sci-Fi Samurai” collection for Fall/Winter 2012) with lots of dark or white shades.

Highlights from the BCBG show

Unlike a typical spring/summer collection, there was very little colour (the Fall/Winter 2012 pieces are more cheerful), especially lighter shades (other than whites, tans and creams, save for one dress in pink) and in fact, the darker pieces, especially the leather pieces, seemed to scream out fall/winter.  Half the collection looked a little bit misplaced, as if it was for the wrong season.  However, this isn’t BCBG Runway’s WORST collection.  In fact, this collection is more wearable than previous seasons (BCBG Runway has, in the past, been stuck somewhere between regular ready-to-wear and “artsy” looks seen mostly in European and Asian shows), despite some skirts being in an awkward length for anyone under 5’9″.
