Greta Constantine – Strong Showing of Spring/Summer 2011 Collection Presented by Schwarzkopf Professional

It’s no surprise that Greta Constantine is time and again one of the top Canadian design houses. The work of designers Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong is truly inspired. Their latest collection featured flowing lines Grecian and goddess style, made with their trademark draped jersey fabric. Distinct architectural shapes, long Dior-like gowns with occasional fitted dresses were world class and also somewhat nostalgic, particularly with an Alexander McQueen approach to colour. The highlight of the show, however, was seeing the brand evolve from pure draping pieces to more structured designs and the inclusion of the Ezra Constantine menswear line, which featured boxing hoodies, mesh pants and lots of uber testosterone options.

They decided to show independent of LG Fashion Week and its organizing body, the Fashion Design Council of Canada, but easily drew a packed crowd of over 400 to their 161 Spadina Avenue location, all of whom were packed like sardines on the ground floor of the building as they waited over an hour for the show to begin. The dynamic duo was easily forgiven though as during this long wait, delicious cocktails were served and decadent treats (in the form of a charcuterie table by Parts and Labour) were in abudance.  Best of all, Canadian supermodel Coco Rocha — styled with a vintage updo created by Schwarzkopf Professional lead hairstylist Adrian Carew — opened the collection to much fanfare.

Schwarzkopf Professional presented the show as well as gave the make-up and hair look to the models. Carew was in his element and he shared in an exclusive with DelectablyChic! how much he enjoyed working with Greta Constantine and creating innovative looks and designs.

Carew created a sleek, tight style for the models, but for Canadian Juno-nominated singer-songwriter and model Fefe Dobson he put together a straight sleek style (see below), very different from her natural, voluminous hair.

Dobson’s presence was another highlight of the evening and definitely a crowd pleaser, but the night truly belonged to the dynamic duo of Greta Constantine and their winning new collection.
