Korhani Turns Rugs into Fashion

When people think of Korhani, they think rugs.  Things you put on the floor.  People don’t think couture.  However, this was proven wrong at LG Fashion Week on Tuesday, when Korhani presented what is perhaps the first rug runway show in history.  Turing pieces into clothing was unlikely easy, but Kristen and Moji Korhani knew what they were doing and it was both creative and unusual.

While the first series of pieces – pink and blue bodysuits – were a little on the unusual side, the highlight of the show was definitely in the finale, where models dressed in 1950s poodle skirts strutted down to songs like Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend.  Colouring was very fall-like in many of the pices, with a great deal of earthy tones.  The highlight of the collection was at the end, when the final model, walked out with two adorable dogs.

The collection is presented on Tuesday is not meant to be worn – Korhani is not going into the fashion business any time soon – instead, it was a creative way to highlight their next rug collection by putting it on people rather than on the floor or hanging them on a wall.  Typical rug collections are boring.  Considering that most people in the audience for Korhani didn’t know what to expect, turning it into a runway show was definitely innovative of them.
