Rue Magazine: The Launch of a New Online Shelter Publication

Connie Limoncelli

Looking back the folding of the much-loved Domino magazine seemed to mark the beginning of a new and innovative chapter in home decor publications. The difficulties in the publishing world allowed stylish online publications like Lonny and Nesting Newbies to thrive on the Internet. Style mavens and decor bloggers await the new issues of Lonny with bated breath only to go into raptures dissecting and posting all about the gorgeous interiors. If you’re someone who enjoys your home inspiration delivered in a glossy (albeit digital) format then you should really check out the newest kid on the block, Rue, which celebrated the launch of its premiere issue on September 16th.
The baby of four design bloggers–Crystal Gentilello, Anne Sage, Alaina Kaczmarski, and Caitlin Flemming— the idea of the magazine came to co-founder and editor-in-chief Gentilello on her birthday. After bringing the other three on board Gentilello embarked on a journey to bring Rue to life with the vision of having a decor magazine not only devoted to beautiful interiors, but the inclusivity and accessibility that are hallmarks of the blogging world.

The result is decidedly impressive, with a range of content from beautiful photographs and intriguing vignettes to stories featuring design superstars like Vicente Wolf, up-and-comers like Design Star winner Emily Henderson and many faces familiar to those within the decor blog universe.

The features include a peek into Gentilello’s own abode, a “bachelorette pad” filled with calm neutrals, feminine touches and Old World European styling, as well as a look at Chicago designer Julia Edelmann‘s beautiful home. Los Angeles is represented by the cover story on Woodson + Rummerfield and their decidedly glamorous interiors and there is a colour saturated fashion piece featuring Ban.do headgear.
